As they'd like it

Rhys Ifans and Joely Richardson hang out. For one night only, the Tudors reigned again in London at the Oct. 25 bow of "Anonymous." Discussing whether Shakespeare did pen the works attributed to his name, Rhys Ifans gave his take: "There is absolutely no evidence to prove, or to qualify, that William Shakespeare of Stratford was the author of these plays." He concluded that his character, the Earl of Oxford, "is a very convincing candidate." "I believe that there's a question mark," said Joely Richardson, who plays Queen Elizabeth I, pretending to ponder the issue. "The Oxfordians, the Baconians, the Stratfordians, some people say it was a woman, some people say it was this collaboration -- so I look forward to further investigation." Helmer Roland Emmerich joined his cast including Rafe Spall, David Thewlis and Jamie Campbell Bower for the festivities. Post screening, guests went on to a whiskey-fueled afterparty at the May Fair Hotel. Contact Variety Staff at news@variety.com
